Educational Program: “No man is an island’’ Erasmus+ KA1, Training
Dates: 5-14, 2015 Estonia
Place: Saarema, Estonia
When you are born and raised in a small island such as Cyprus, the feeling of geographical exclusion is extremely high sometimes. However when you meet people whom you share the same feelings with, this exclusion seems easier to be faced. During this project, all the participants which were from small and sometimes isolated islands shared the same problems, fears and worries about the future but also about the current situation in their countries.
The main aim of this training course was to enable young people from different islands across Europe to understand the general concept of exclusion in an individual, local, national but also international level. As a participant, I was able to expand my knowledge as regards exclusion/inclusion through non formal education and creative methods such as Forum Theater.
Personally, during this project I had the chance to interact with people from different countries and cultures, respect our differences and discover our similarities. It is worth mentioning, that I met Estonia from a local’s perspective and visit many important places which illustrated the geographical difference in the same country such as the industrial and modern capital town of Tallinn and on the other hand the small urban island of Saaremaa.
In the light of the above, I would say that Erasmus+ offers infinite opportunities and if you are starving for knowledge and adventure, without any hesitation, I would recommend you to grab this opportunity since it is a once in a life time experience!
