Our team joined the biggest clean-up & volunteering campaign of the island and did a Clean-Up at Manglis Lake. Manglis Lake is situated alongside of the Pediaios River and the linear park and is a “gateway” for calmness, relief, and relaxation, it is a jewel for the Municipality of Lakatamia. The Manglis lake, as well as the entire area around it, is a Biotope. This Biotope has been created approximately during the last fifty years since the creation of the specific lake and since the construction of the dam on the Pediaos River. Also in the lake, over the years, several organisms have developed, such as fish and crayfish, but also various mainly aquatic plants. In addition, several birds appear in the lake from time to time and more often near the summer, some of them are also rare species. In particular, the Ornithological Association of Cyprus has seen and identified several migratory birds in the last 8 years, where some of them are protected. Manglis lake is also used by many families taking walks around the lake, many children often spend time there with their friends! It is sad to have such a Biotope and have it dirty, therefore our team decided to dedicate a few hours to this lake to do a clean-up. We hope this move, will enhance the awareness of the neighbourhood and the general public. For us is important to support these kinds of initiatives and to promote sensitivity and care along these topics.
