NiMATH, the Nicosia Mathematical Museum, is an initiative created and operated by Citizens in Power. It is the first museum in Cyprus dedicated to mathematics, and the physical expression of years of our work in mathematics education and exhibit design.

Much of what the museum holds began as European project work. Through a connected family of projects, including Informath, MathReality, VM-STEM, The Art of Maths, Numeric[All], SMEM, recreaMATHS, AIExhibits, CipherEngine, 6Milestones and MathArtStories, we developed the methodologies, interactive exhibits and educational approaches that NiMATH now brings together under one roof. The museum turns that body of research into a public space in Nicosia, where visitors of every age can explore mathematics through play, logic and creativity, and experience it as a language rather than a set of rules to memorise.

NiMATH was built in close collaboration with some of Europe’s foremost mathematics museums and institutions, among them IMAGINARY, MMACA, Maison Poincaré and Associação Ludus, and it is established with the contributions of the Pädagogische Hochschule Wien (PH Wien), which has lent exhibits to the museum and supports its work with academic and pedagogical expertise.

Our mission

For CIP, NiMATH is a continuation of our mission. Through the museum, we aim:

• to become Cyprus’s leading space for mathematical experience;
• to strengthen the public’s connection with logic, creativity and technology;
• to promote mathematical culture as an essential part of society;
• to bring generations together, creating an intergenerational space where parents and children explore, reason and discover mathematics side by side;
• to contribute to the international advancement of mathematics outreach through partnerships and innovation.
