PREVENT (Preventing Natural Disasters through Deep Technologies) is a collaborative project aimed at enhancing higher education (HE) students’ understanding of climate change, its consequences, and fostering pro-environmental behavior. The project focuses on training HE students in the use of deep technologies such as PLCs, microcontrollers, robotics, AI, and machine learning for the prevention of natural disasters. By modernizing the curriculum in electrical, electronics, and computer engineering, PREVENT equips educators with innovative teaching methodologies to address the increasing demands of the labor market while emphasizing real-life applications that contribute to environmental sustainability.

Target Groups:

The target groups for PREVENT include higher education students, educators, and local communities. By empowering HE students with digital and deep tech skills, the project aims to enhance their employability and competitiveness in the labor market. Additionally, by engaging local communities through the Open Living Labs methodology, PREVENT seeks to foster collaboration between students, experts, and community stakeholders to develop innovative solutions for preventing natural disasters.

Consortium:

The consortium consists of six partner organizations from Sweden, Cyprus, Romania, Greece, and Spain. Each partner brings complementary expertise in higher education, technology, and community engagement, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to addressing the project’s objectives. Partners include:

  • Halmstad University
  • C.I.P. Citizens In power
  • UCLan Cyprus

Project Results:

  • Development of a pedagogical guide to update HE curricula with digital skills relevant to deep technologies and natural disaster prevention.
  • Creation of an interactive module and Virtual Learning Lab to engage students in programming and deep tech concepts.
  • Implementation of Open Living Labs methodology to facilitate collaboration between HE students, experts, and local communities in developing solutions for preventing natural disasters.
  • Promotion of gender diversity in programming activities by encouraging female participation in project activities.
  • Enhancement of HE students’ employability through the acquisition of practical knowledge in deep technologies and real-life problem-solving skills.
