Project Manager – Researcher
Maria Efstathiou (b. Nicosia, CY) holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins (UAL), London, and an MA in International Curating Management from Stockholm University. She is an observer of culture and other moving targets whose work blends curatorial practice with critical observation and collaborative experimentation.
Maria was General Director of the CVAR Museum of the Costas and Rita Severis Foundation (2023–2025), where she developed the museum’s public and artistic programming and oversaw the completion of an EEA Norway Grant (2021–2024). She previously directed the Pierides Foundation (2021–2023) and curated Theatro Polis OPAP (2020–2022), working closely with local performance practitioners and independent voices. From 2017 to 2023, She was part of the NiMAC team (2017–2023), contributing to large-scale exhibitions and international projects.
Her work often moves between formal institutions and more fluid cultural terrains. In 2024, she presented the photographic essay The Appropriation of the Institutional Gage at the FRONTPAGE Symposium, continuing her exploration of the tensions between cultural memory, visibility, and power
