NiMATH at the MoMATH Event in New York 17-21/07/2026
🎤 NiMATH takes the stage at MoMath, New York

NiMATH, the Nicosia Mathematical Museum, founded by Citizens in Power, was presented by our Co-Founder and Head of R&D, Giota Mourettou, in a lightning speech at the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) in New York, in the framework of MATRIX × IMAGINARY 2026, the world’s leading forum for mathematics museums and mathematics communication.

It was a privilege to share the NiMATH story at a gathering whose programme featured keynotes by Grant Sanderson (3Blue1Brown), Dr. Talithia Williams and Tadashi Tokieda of Stanford University, and closed with a panel of Fields Medalists Manjul Bhargava and Akshay Venkatesh, moderated by Steve Strogatz, alongside the directors, curators and researchers of the world’s foremost mathematics museums and science centres.

Giota’s talk, “Building a Museum Out of a Network”, told the story of how Cyprus’s first mathematics museum grew out of more than a decade of European collaboration: over one hundred EU projects, a family of initiatives devoted to the popularisation of mathematics, and exhibits co-created with institutions such as Mathematikum, IMAGINARY, Museu de Matemàtiques de Catalunya – MMACA, Maison Poincaré, NEMO, Ludus and PH Wien, whose House of Mathematics exhibits will stand at the heart of our amphitheatre.

And she shared what makes NiMATH unlike any other: a museum of mathematics, the one language that recognises no border, opening a few steps from the ceasefire line in Nicosia, the last divided capital in Europe. The story visibly moved the room, and the conversations that followed confirmed what we have long believed: a museum can grow out of a network, and open science can transform what is possible for countries still building their research capacity.
NiMATH pilots this October and opens in November. Watch the video of Giota’s talk here: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7488956687207387136
