The ExhiBIT project aims to provide museums with Phygital solutions and digital upskilling opportunities to CCI staff, for the inclusion of alternative voices in co-curated collections that enable the diverse and active participation of underrepresented and marginalized communities in the new Phygital Museum era. Such participation offers transformational learning opportunities to both marginalized communities and the cultural sector.
ExhiBIT brings an innovative and largely unexploited citizen curation Phygital solution for increasing and diversifying cultural engagement in our CC sector in Cyprus, Greece, and rural Denmark. Estimations report a 20.5% engagement in Cyprus and 16.9% in Greece, considerably lower than the EU average of 41% (Eurostat 2020).
ExhiBIT provides institutions unable to incorporate higher-end technologies with digital training on a user-friendly, easily accessible, and free software App that can be universally exploited in all EU museums.
It remotes access breaks down physical accessibility and other barriers that may hinder in-person presence while opening avenues to increase cultural tourism and pan-EU engagement with our collections.
It invites polyphony in interpretation, based on bottoms-up cultural interests, that facilitate cooperation between CCI, grassroots communities, and CSO/NGOs.
The project thus leads the way for the socially inclusive Phygital transformation of museums with the multifold purpose of 1) fostering cultural democratization, 2) strengthening social cohesion in local communities, and 3) making cultural institutions relevant and sustainable
Expected Results:
- ExhiBIT will produce an e-Booklet on the value of co-curating with underrepresented communities in the new Phygital era
- The ExhiBIT App to host collections, enable their curation by visitor-end-users and share exhibition creations in Open Forums
- A Guidebook on the use and customization of ExhiBIT App and an Interactive Phygital Stories account showcasing community curated exhibitions and alternative narratives.
